The Canadian wilderness, known for its rugged terrain and harsh conditions, posed a formidable challenge to early European settlers. Among the many challenges faced, taming the land and its wild inhabitants required resilient companions. The Canadian Horse emerged as the breed uniquely suited to endure these challenges, descended from royal Norman and Breton/Andalusian stock. Renowned as “little iron horses,” Canadian Horses are celebrated as the purest North American breed.

On the obverse of these 3/4 oz Silver Coins is the right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, marking the fourth-generation effigy of the Queen on Canadian currency. Notably, this depiction is the first on a Canadian coin since the 1930s to portray the monarch without a crown.

The reverse of the 2019 Canadian Silver Wild Horse Coins showcases a compelling portrayal of a Canadian Horse, characterized by its wild and majestic appearance with a flowing mane. The design is enhanced by the Royal Canadian Mint’s micro-engraved maple leaf privy in the upper-left design field, alongside designer Denis Mayer Jr.’s distinctive “DM” initials integrated into the design field.
